How BackLot collects, uses, and shares information from visitors, waitlist members, and account holders.
Backlot, a California limited liability company ("BackLot," "we," "us," or "our") operates the website at backlothq.com (the "Site") and the BackLot web application (the "App"). We refer to the Site, the App, our waitlist, and related services together as the "Services."
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. It applies to anyone who visits the Site, joins our waitlist, books a demo, or creates an account in the App.
The Services are operated from the United States and are intended for users in the United States.
The Services display information about real property that we collect from public government sources, such as county assessors, tax collectors, treasurers, state agencies, and auction vendors. That information can include the names and mailing addresses of property owners as published by those agencies. This is information about properties, not about you as a user of the Services. Section 9 explains how we handle it.
We use the information we collect to:
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own advertising. We share information only in the following ways.
We use companies that process information on our behalf to run the Services. Each is permitted to use the information only to provide its service to us.
We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies.
Most browsers let you refuse or delete cookies. If you block essential cookies, you will not be able to stay signed in to the App.
Some browsers send "Do Not Track" or Global Privacy Control signals. The Site does not currently change its behavior in response to those signals, because we do not sell or share personal information for advertising in the first place.
BackLot uses automated tools, including AI models, to read public government web pages and documents and to extract auction dates, deadlines, and related details. Our staff review the results before they are published in the Services.
We do not send your account information, your saved parcels, your notes, or your usage data to AI providers, and we do not use your personal information to train AI models.
We protect information with measures that include encryption in transit, database access controls that limit each account to its own data, role-based permissions for our staff, and multi-factor authentication for administrative access. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
If we learn of a security incident that affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by law.
The Services compile information published by government agencies about real property, including tax-defaulted property lists, auction notices, and assessor parcel records. Those records sometimes include the names and mailing addresses of property owners. We display that information as published by the agency. We do not create it, verify it against non-public sources, or combine it with data from consumer reporting agencies.
BackLot is not a consumer reporting agency, and the Services may not be used to make decisions about anyone's eligibility for credit, insurance, employment, housing, or any other purpose covered by the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
If you are a property owner and believe information about your property is inaccurate, the correction must be made with the agency that publishes the record, usually the county assessor or tax collector. If you would like us to suppress the display of your name in the App, email backlothq@gmail.com with the parcel number and county. We will honor reasonable requests where we are able to.
If you live in California, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose; to request deletion of your personal information; to request correction of inaccurate personal information; to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (we do not sell or share it); and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
To exercise these rights, email backlothq@gmail.com. We will verify your request by contacting the email address associated with your account or waitlist entry. You may designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf; we will ask the agent for proof of your authorization.
In the preceding 12 months we have collected the categories of personal information described in Section 2, used them for the purposes in Section 3, and disclosed them to the service providers in Section 4. We have not sold or shared personal information.
If you live in a state with a consumer privacy law that grants similar rights, you may exercise them the same way. We will respond within the time required by the applicable law.
The Services are not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
The Services are hosted in the United States. If you use them from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your country.
The Services link to county websites, auction vendors, and other third-party sites. Those sites have their own privacy practices, and this policy does not apply to them.
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy here and change the effective date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use your personal information, we will notify account holders by email before it takes effect.
Questions about this policy or your information can be sent to backlothq@gmail.com. BackLot is located in La Quinta, California.
